How to Season Iron Dosa Tawa?
I always wanted to prepare dosas on an iron dosa tawa so I recently borrowed my mom’s dosa tawa. Dosas made on an iron tawa turn out more crispy than the ones made on non stick dosa tawa. Also using an iron tawa is better for health as compared to the non stick tawa since it adds to the iron content of food. But iron dosa tawa needs proper seasoning and maintenance.
In this blogpost, I am going to share a couple of important tips on how to season the iron dosa tawa?
- Cut the end part of an onion (approx 1.5 to 2 inches diameter) so as to be able to hold it with the tail. Apply some oil on it and cover the entire surface of the tawa. This can be done before heating or while heating the iron dosa tawa. Note: If you feel the oil on the tawa is more, you can wipe off the excess oil lightly with a kitchen napkin or a tissue paper.
- While preparing the dosas, after the first dosa is done, sprinkle a few drops of water on the tawa to cool it down a bit and wipe off the excess water with a kitchen napkin. This is necessary because the iron dosa tawa tends to heat up quickly and needs to be cooled down a bit before pouring the batter for the next dosa. Otherwise the dosa will tend to stick to the tawa.
